Finding a training contract in the highly competitive field of trainee solicitors in the UK can be challenging. However, completing this course of study is essential if one aspires to become a solicitor in the United Kingdom. In a stroke of good fortune, Devandran Karunakaran immediately landed a training contract at a prominent UK legal firm. The prospect was just too fantastic to pass up for him. Ultimately, he decided to make London his new home rather than return to Singapore after finishing college.

Mr. Karunakaran called London his home for nearly a decade. While working for two international legal companies, he expanded his professional network and personal ties through his time spent in Piraeus, Greece.

Devandran, well-respected in his field, has chosen to focus his practice on ship finance law and offshore energy and renewables. In these roles, he puts out much effort into ensuring that his clients receive the benefits of his ability to combine technical legal knowledge with commercial and business acumen.

After some time, in 2020, Karunakaran became an integral part of PT Indo Energy Solutions' in the capacity of advisor to the board of directors. Devandran continues to work from Singapore and travels to different locations in Indonesia as needed, even though the company's headquarters are located there.

Lifestyle and Interests

Devandran met his future wife, Cornelia, in 2015 after he returned to Singapore 2015; she was working in Germany and was on secondment to Singapore. Halle, Germany, where she was born and raised, is now considered Devandran's second city.

Mr. Karunakaran takes care of his parents and has a passion for cooking. He learned to appreciate fine cuisine from his mother, aunts, and grandmother, who are skilled chefs. The foods he enjoyed as a child are important to him, and he wants to learn how to make them in a way that is both tasty and nutritious for his family.

Both Devandran and Cornelia are extremely worried about the situation on the planet. They try to follow sustainable practices whenever possible in wanting to leave their daughter with a healthy and beautiful planet. Mr. Karunakaran strongly desires to help the environment. Therefore he plans to devote more of his free time to environmental nonprofits in the coming years. He believes that no one in this day and age should go hungry. Hence he is actively involved in volunteer work connected to food security.

The Karunakaran family enjoys traveling as a hobby. In addition to the places their respective careers took them before they met, he and his wife have visited Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Switzerland, and Australia. They hope to instill a lifelong enthusiasm for seeing the world in their daughter.

His family places a high priority on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They supplement their diet with exercise, plenty of fresh air, and natural remedies to keep their bodies strong and healthy.
